Julian Sands went missing during a solo hike on the snow-covered Mount Baldy in Southern California on January 13, 2023. His family reported him missing later that evening, around 7:30 p.m. local time. Mara Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, explained, “Search and Rescue teams were immediately deployed, but because of hazardous trail conditions and the risk of avalanches, we had to pull ground crews off the mountain by Saturday night.”

“Despite the challenges, we’ve continued aerial searches with helicopters and drones whenever the weather permits. We’ll plan another ground search when conditions improve and it’s safe for our teams,” Rodriguez added.

As news of Julian’s disappearance spread, his family issued a heartfelt statement thanking the efforts of those involved in the search.

“We are deeply grateful to the members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department who have been leading the search for our beloved Julian. We also want to thank the heroic search teams who’ve been braving difficult conditions both on the ground and from the air in their efforts to bring him home,” they wrote in a statement released the day before.

“We’ve been truly touched by the immense support and kindness shown to us during this time,” they added.

On June 24, some recreational hikers discovered human remains on Mount Baldy and alerted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station. Just a few days later, on June 27, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the remains belonged to the missing actor.

“The cause of death is still being investigated, pending further tests,” the Sheriff’s Department shared in a public statement.

Julian Sands’ Marriages and Family Life

Before marrying Evgenia, Julian Sands was married to British journalist Sarah Sands. They tied the knot in 1984 after dating for over ten years but split up in 1987.

Sarah, a well-known figure in British journalism, worked for prominent outlets like The London Evening Standard and the BBC. She also attended the University of London.
